A graphic representation of a characteristic of a process, showing plotted values of some statistic gathered from that characteristic, and one or two control limits.
A chart showing how a process is operating over time, with time or successive items or batches as the x-axis. On the y-axis are plotted key measures of the process and the limits (upper and lower control limits) in which the process is expected operate. Applicable to all types of process: manufacturing, transactional and services. Used to highlight out of control behaviour due to special cause variation. See Statistical Process Control.
